I have never blogged before and I don't read any regularly, so this is a whole new experience for me. My only other experience is tumblr and I never write anything on there, I just reblog funny pictures or other posts people have written.
I wanted my blog to be pretty simple without anything too distracting. The first template I used was a "Simple" one that was just white and blue. I just changed it to another "Simple" design that has books as the background. This kind of reminded me of the stacks in the Bizzell and it wasn't too overwhelming or distracting. I kept the setting the same because I liked the layout and didn't want to mess it up.
